Climbing, diving & other activities
When we speak about Sardinia, we think of sun, sea and beach. However, Sardinia is a little more ... the charm and the magnificent panoramas of the island in the Mediterranean arouse strong emotions and inspire every visitor. The charming island is now one of the most desirable places for rock climbing enthusiasts from Europe. Wild and unspoiled the natural richness of this landscape makes the Mediterranean so impressive. The Gulf of Orosei is certainly the most famous climbing area in Sardinia. It is located on the east coast of the island. Both beginners and experienced climbers come here. Many climbing areas are in the vicinity of Dorgali, Siniscola and there is also the area called "Afghanistan" on the mountain Tuttavista, near Irgoli.
The climate in Sardinia is ideal all year round for climbing. Presumably, the spring (March, April, and May) and autumn (September-December) months are the best for it. Both in summer and winter climbing is possible, but one should always take care of the hot summer sun or the winter wind when on the rock. Irgoli is the ideal base camp for sports fans. There are several diving possibilities in the sea at Orosei. Perhaps the most exciting place for diving is the wreck of a German ship (KT Elbex), which sank in the Second World War. Today it is one of the best preserved wrecks in the Mediterranean.
You can practice sailing at the ports of La Caletta and Cala Gonone, mountain biking in the Barbagia in the massif of Gennargentu. All these activities provide fun and recreation for visitors of Sardinia. The organizers also offer multi-day horseback tours, trekking tours over several days with an impressive outlook of the islands beauties. The wonderful beach of Orosei with a length of 7 km is about 8 minutes by car from Irgoli and offers a natural oasis and a tranquil stay under the shade of a vast pine forest. Anglers will love this place as between the beach, the pinewood and small street there is a river which runs abreast the sea, then flows by "Marina di Orosei" into the sea.
